T.R.O.Y. Leroi Moore
Leroi Moore, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, passed away at the age of 47. Moore sustained injuries in an ATV accident at the end of June and succumbed to his injuries on August 19th.
I am not a DMB fan. I should rephrase that last statement because I have seen nine DMB shows, either as headliners or in festivals, but I haven’t bought an album since the disappointing Before These Crowded Streets. In the last ten years I have been aware of the Dave Matthews Band but I am unaware of their current work or status.
They Reminisce Over You, Leroi Moore
T.R.O.Y. Isaac Hayes
Isaac Hayes, idol of Life In The DPC, has passed away at the age of 65. Hayes was largely known for his role as “Chef” in the Comedy Central cartoon South Park.
DPC.com will always remember Hayes as an Oscar award winning musician, for the Shaft soundtrack, and for his movie roles in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and his starring role as Truck Turner.
We’re gonna miss you, Isaac.
Where Have You Gone, DJ Yella?
Where have you gone, DJ Yella? Apparently down the same road as the Dark Brothers. The former man behind the wheels of steel for the world’s most dangerous band is now directing porno movies.
A brief synopsis of Str8 Outta Compton #1: GRAB YO BITCH, POP THAT REMY AND BURN THAT SWISHER CUZ WE GOT A DOUBLE DISC SET AN WE COMIN STR8 OUTTA COMPTON
Most members of NWA have had main stream music success after they went their separate ways. Yella, on the other hand has gone a different route.
Dark Side of the Rainbow
Although the Dark Side of the Rainbow effect has become famous, its origin is murky. In 1994, fans of Pink Floyd discussed the phenomenon on the Usenet message board alt.music.pink-floyd. At that point, knowledge of who first thought of combining the two works, and why, was already lost.
Since then, several waves of attention rippled through popular culture. In August 1995, a newspaper in Fort Wayne, Indiana, published the first mainstream media article[1] about the synchronicity, citing alt.music.pink-floyd. Soon afterward, several fans began creating websites in which they touted the experience and tried to catalog comprehensively the corresponding moments. A second wave of awareness began in April 1997 when a Boston radio DJ discussed Dark Side of the Rainbow on the air, leading to further mainstream media articles and a segment on MTV news.[2]
In July 2000, the cable channel Turner Classic Movies aired a version of Oz with the Dark Side album as an alternate soundtrack.[3] That same month, an episode from season two of the animated television show Family Guy aired that made reference to the effect; entitled “The Story on Page One”, the episode included Peter Griffin saying to Luke Perry, “I’m telling you, Dark Side of the Moon totally syncs up with the Wizard of Oz!” (Also, in the January 2002 episode “Stuck Together Torn Apart,” from Family Guy season three, the character Mort Goldman tells Griffin that he and his wife “like to watch old movies while listening to Hotel California to see if it syncs up in a significant way. And so far, no. Nothing has.”)

Dolly Parton Hand Picks Scarlett For Role

Dolly Parton wants Scarlett Johansson to play her in a movie of her life.
The 9 to 5 singer has reportedly been in talks with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes about producing the biopic and is keen for blonde beauty Scarlett to take on the lead role.
A source said: “Dolly is a huge fan of Scarlett and thinks she would be perfect for the role. She has approached Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to see if they will produce the film.
“She’s really excited about the project, and is determined to have the very best people in town working on it.”
Meanwhile, Dolly recently joked her famous breasts will rise like mountains from her grave when she is dead and buried.
The I Will Always Love You singer hopes fans visiting her final resting place will make pilgrimages by mule to the peaks of her mammary mounds.
Dolly said: “I can just see two big mountains growing up out of my grave, and people going around on mule rides to look at them. Throughout my whole career, I’ve been known for two things - I’m talking about my music and my lyrics!”
Sweet Caroline Revealed
Sweet Caroline has finally been revealed by Neil Diamond as Caroline Kennedy.
“It was a No. 1 record and probably is the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration,” he said. “I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”
I always assumed that Sweet Caroline, as interpreted by Will Farrell, was a bit darker…

Neil Diamond…..Will Ferrell
Gary the Bass Player…..John Goodman
Kenny the Keyboard Player…..Tim Meadows
Neil: Hello, everyone. They told me before I came on this show, that I was supposed to tell the stories behind my most popular songs, and then play them. I said, “Cool let’s do it!” But, Gary over here was a little shy..
Gary the Bass Player: Now, come on, Neil, give me a break, man.
Neil: Ah, ha ha ha ha! This first song.. [ Kenny the Keyboard Player intros “Sweet Caroline”, crowd applauds ] Thank you. That, of course, “Sweet Caroline”. I wrote that song after a big show at the Forum. Gary and I had been drinking pretty heavily, and we were driving..
Gary: [ worried ] Oh, I can’t believe you’re gonna tell this story..
Neil: Ha ha ha ha ha! Yeah, well, we were driving down this dark road, and I hit a kid. [ the crowd is stunned ] So, we got out, and sure enough he was dead. So, we just took off. Pretty fast. And, two hours later, I wrote “Sweet Caroline”. Sweet Caroline. Good times never seemed so good. Thank you.

This Is Music
After a ten year sabbatical The Verve have reunited. Their last album, Urban Hymns, was released on 10/30/1997.
Since their demise Richard Ashcroft’s solo has been less than stellar. After a while it seemed that The Verve fell into the cliche that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. Or they need the $.
I am an Oasis fan, through and through. But The Verve had (have? Well, that remains to be seen) more talent but less pop appeal than the brothers from Manchester. Even Noel knew that after dedicating ‘Cast No Shadow’ to Mad Richard. But Urban Hymns and Ashcroft’s subsequent solo career showed a movement towards pop as opposed to the depressing tunes in all of their prior work and this is not neccesarily a good thing. The Verve’s appeal, like The Smiths, is that you need to be bummed out sometimes (or have your mood made worse) by your music choices.

Silent since 1999, U.K. rock act the Verve is reuniting for a new album and fall live dates.
According to a post on the group’s newly launched Web site (http://www.theverve.tv/), Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury were in a London studio last week laying down tracks for the album, which will be completed in the fall.
The Verve will then return to the stage for six U.K. shows in November: November 2-3 at Glasgow’s Academy, November 5-6 at Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom and November 8-9 at London’s Roundhouse. It appears guitarist/keyboardist Simon Tong, who was last heard from in the Good, the Bad and the Queen, is sitting out the reunion.
The Verve rose to fame internationally in the early ’90s with a sound psychedelic enough for adventurous listeners but palatable to commercial radio as well. Internal tensions finally splintered the band in the wake of 1997’s U.S. breakthrough “Urban Hymns,” which has sold 1.34 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and spawned the megahit “Bittersweet Symphony.”
Ashcroft has since released three solo albums but has frequently played Verve songs in his live sets.
